Otis College of Art and Design Teams up with Contemporary Designers to Create New Fashion Collections

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) September 19, 2012

Every year Otis Fashion Design, one of the top design programs in the United States, pairs a team of students with leading design professionals from the fashion industry to work on original collections based on directions inspired by a specific theme. A theme may include season, time and place, social or political movements, specific construction techniques, fabrics, colors, shapes, and more depending on the mentors vision.

These one-of-a-kind collections are shown annually at the Otis Scholarship Benefit and Fashion Show in Beverly Hills to raise funds for Otis students while showcasing upcoming design stars.

This year Otis Design Mentors focus on redefining luxury, sustainable design, high-fashion sports apparel, classic rock and roll, and more.

ELEVEN BY VENUS Tennis champion Venus Williams actually studied fashion design. Her apparel designs are not just licensing deals that make use of her name; they are original designs by Venus herself. In 2007 she launched EleVen, a ready-to-wear collection of classic dresses and tennis sportswear, to critical acclaim. Although the brand had to take a back seat while her tournament wins piled up, media interest remained, as she frequently wore her own creations on the court. In 2010, while Venus landed on the best-dressed lists of Vogue and Forbes, EleVen partnered with Ralph Lauren on a capsule collection that sold out at the U.S. Open and online. That same year a partnership with Gilt made dresses worn by Venus on the court available to the public. Shortly after that Venus paired up with Diane Von Furstenburg on a line for Reebok. In 2012 Venus re-launched EleVen and added menswear to the line to round out the lifestyle collection. Students design colorful tennis apparel, both functional and timeless.

Synchronicity Boutique in Baltimore Stocks More Fashion-Forward 2012 Homecoming Dresses than ever as Dances Become More Formal

Baltimore, MD (PRWEB) September 01, 2012

Synchronicity Boutique, the Baltimore-Washington areas hottest special occasion clothing and accessory shop for teens and adults, is leading the trend toward homecoming formals by stocking a larger selection of fashion forward 2012 homecoming dresses than ever. As a result, customers are shopping earlier than ever, and driving as long as 4 hours to see the variety and quantity they stock.

Homecoming formals continue to grow in popularity, with students increasingly dressing as fashionably for Homecoming as they do for Prom, said Synchronicity Boutique Owner Karen Mazer. Although customers still tend to prefer short dresses for most Homecoming Dances, their selections are more formal and fashion-forward. Long dresses continue to be more popular for schools with Fall Galas and Formals.

As seen in the Boutiques special Homecoming catalog and online at http://www.MyDreamDress.com, more fashion designers than ever are making special collections targeted at Homecoming Customers. This years hot colors are black, nudes, and reds, with lace elements, open backs, and lots of bling, according to Mazer. Styles range from sophisticated to totally fanciful and fun. One-shoulder and one- or two-sleeved dresses are even more popular than last year, and designers are increasingly making dresses that incorporate stretch, lace-up backs, and other features that ensure the dresses will be comfortable and fit very well. There is a movement to design dresses appropriate for college formals as well.

Nude/see-through dresses with strategic accents are being shown by every designer, and black, which traditionally was not a popular color for teens is huge, Mazer added. Poofy party dresses still are very popular, but most are very short and have corseted tops. In many ways, fashion is attacking extremes- black and sophisticated or sexy, or colorful with tons of sequins and beads.

Sized 00 to 30w, the dresses come from a variety of designers including: Sherri Hill, La Femme, Jovani, Tony Bowls, Faviana, Terani Couture, Blush, Mac Duggal, and Night Moves. This season, the Boutique is carrying more accessories than ever, and now rents Tuxedos and suits in every size, designed to coordinate exactly with every dress in stock.

Synchronicity Boutique registers every dress purchase, so no two customers wear the same dress to the same event. Mazer also will donate $ 5 from every homecoming/fall ring dance dress purchase to the student’s school. {For each 2012 prom dress purchase or tuxedo rental, the Boutique donated $ 5 to the customers school for its after-prom party, SADD (Students Against Driving Drunk) chapter or other programming donating nearly $ 11,000 to support 240 schools.}

Named Baltimores Best by Baltimore Magazine and known as the areas go-to place for special occasion fashions, Synchronicity Boutique outfits customers of all ages from all over the world for homecomings, proms, ring dances, cocktail parties, cotillions, graduations, Bat Mitzvahs, Quinceaneras, sweet sixteens, college formals, military balls, pageants, weddings and other black-tie events.

In addition to the wide variety of dresses and gowns, Synchronicity Boutique carries accessories including jewelry, purses, undergarments, fashion tape, wraps and footwear.

Open since 2003, Synchronicity Boutique is located in Hooks Village, at 25 Hooks Lane, off I-695 Beltway Exit 20. Hours are Mondays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sundays, noon to 5 p.m. For more information, call 410-486-8866 or 877.919.PROM or visit http://www.synchronicityboutique.com
