She was one of the best-known sex symbols of the 1960s. In her early life, Bardot was an aspiring ballet dancer. She started her acting career in 1952 and, after appearing in 16 films, became world-famous due to her role in her then-husband Roger Vadim’s controversial film And God Created Woman. She starred in Jean-Luc Godard’s 1963 cult film, Contempt. She was nominated for a BAFTA Award for Best Foreign Actress for her role in Louis Malle’s 1965 film, Viva Maria!. Bardot caught the attention of French intellectuals. She was the subject of Simone de Beauvoir’s 1959 essay, The Lolita Syndrome, which described Bardot as a "locomotive of women’s history" and built upon existentialist themes to declare her the first and most liberated woman of post-war France.[3] Starting in 1969, Bardot’s features became the official face of Marianne, which had previously been anonymous, to represent liberty of France.[4] Bardot retired from the entertainment industry in 1973. Only Retail Skills Learning Center for Special Education Students in a Public High School Opens on Long Island

Students at Sanford Calhoun High School now have a good reason to shop the day away! The Stable, named after the schools Colts sports mascot, is a much anticipated retail center located on the schools property. The skills center officially opened today after nearly a year of planning by school administrators and teachers. The new program brings students together and keeps the special education life skills learning in-house. The Stable is a real store displaying gifts, fashion clothing, cards, school supplies and spirit wear for students and the community to enjoy.

Calhoun High School located in Bellmore, N.Y., is the only public high school on Long Island with a facility like this and it is one of the largest and most advanced of its kind. The concept for the center was first conceived by Emily Paluseo, chairperson of Special Education, as a way to teach vocational skills to special education students who would normally leave the school for half-a-day training off school property. With the help of faculty members with prior retail experience, the idea took off. Teachers Wendy Simson, Jackie Frank, Theresa Catalina and district Transition Coordinator Cheryl Gitlitz, along with the schools principal David Seinfeld, lent their support to help get the program approved through Central Administration. Having the ability to teach developmentally disabled students life-long skills on campus is of extreme value and the store gives us that ability, stated Seinfeld.

Once the group got the stamp of approval to move forward, teacher Wendy Simson didnt have to look far for donations, especially the security, fire and business management system the retail center needed. Mark Simson, Wendys husband, is CFO of the Garden City-based World Wide Security, which has been a provider of security and life-safety systems to the Bellmore-Merrick School District for over 15 years. Our company was thrilled to donate a Honeywell LYNX alarm system, which we installed at no-charge, along with a Honeywell digital video recorder (DVR) and 4-cameras, while also designing a security observation room inside the retail center, Simson explained. Kenneth Mara, President & CEO of World Wide Security stated, The Lynx System will be operated in an observation room where students will learn all the aspects of how security and camera technology benefits a retail operation. We look forward to volunteering our time to work with the teachers and students on how to use this system in a business environment.

Vancouver Voted City With the Worlds Best Reputation

Vancouver has been named the city with the worlds best reputation. The result is from Reputation Institutes 2012 City RepTrak. The yearly study ranks the worlds 100 most reputable cities by polling more than 18,000 people from the G8 countries.

Vancouver now joins its home, Canada, in the winners circle. Canada was named the worlds most reputable country in the 2012 Country RepTrak ranking released just three weeks ago.

RepTrak destination studies dive deep into the emotional bond between stakeholders and destinations by quantifying the degree to which people Trust, Admire, Respect and have an Affinity for a city or country.

Underlining a destinations RepTrak score are three dimensions that influence the perceptions of a destination. These dimensions: Advanced Economy, Appealing Environment and Effective Administration, are what drive a destinations reputation and stakeholder support.

In the City RepTrak study, these three dimensions are further defined by 13 reputation attributes that participants in the study are asked to evaluate. These include the destinations perceived: beauty; safety; cultural offerings; infrastructure; business environment; schools and more.

We live in a reputation economy. While the idea of a destinations reputation may not be on the top of everyones mind when they decide where to live, work, vacation, or do business, our studies indicate that it should. We have found that a persons perceived reputation of a city is a key factor when deciding where to visit, or in terms of business, to invest. Our modeling demonstrates that effective management of these reputation drivers translates directly into increased tourism receipts, investment, and stakeholder support, says Nicolas Georges Trad, Executive Partner of Reputation Institute.

Vancouver and Sydney were the only cities to finish in the top 10 in all three of the aforementioned, reputation dimensions. Vancouver scored highest in administration and was recommended by poll participants as also the best place to live and work.

The host of the 2010 Winter Olympics focuses many resources on creating a welcoming environment and promoting its multicultural heritage.

We believe that a factor in Vancouvers stature is our reputation as a city where all nationalities gather comfortably, where over 40 first languages are spoken in the average school, where perhaps 50% of our population has English as a second language and in our having a deep-seated respect for varied religious views.

Ongoing immigration continues to provide us with an array of benefits: be they wonderful foods; inspired cooking, festivals, music and fashion. Although Vancouver was not voted the most beautiful city in the world, it did place number seven in the category behind old world and architecturally revered Venice, Florence, Rome, Paris, Vienna and Barcelona.

When tallying a reputation score, the 13 reputation attributes are weighted in order of importance in determining a citys overall reputation. The most important reputation attributes were found to be: beautiful city; safe environment; wide range of appealing experiences, including food, sport, architecture, and entertainment; well-respected leaders and progressive social, economic, and environmental policies.

It is no wonder then that small to medium sized, safe, environmentally friendly and sporty cities like Vancouver, Vienna, Sydney and Copenhagen top the list while the mega cities that never sleep, such as Hong Kong, London, New York and Tokyo are lower down in ranking.

The worlds largest cities certainly face more challenges when it comes to managing their reputations. They have many more factors that can impact their reputation and many of these influencers cannot be controlled. Additionally, big cities tend to operate much more under the microscope of the media. The conversation surrounding a destination – be it in the news and/or social media is often a major influence on public perception. We can see in this years results just how effective Vancouver has been in shaping a constructive and trustworthy dialogue with the media, says Reputation Institutes Nicolas Georges Trad.

While global mega-cities like New York and Hong Kong may still rank amongst the most visited in the world, to maintain and increase their tourism and investment share, the RepTrak demonstrates that they will need to focus more on improving these key attributes.

Destinations that identify and devote proper resources to building a strong reputation attract more tourists, more business investment and when the price is right, sell more products. We can see what happens when for example, a destination neglects these reputation attributes and the opposite effect occurs, as with the USAs drop in tourism numbers.
